Finance Council

A parish finance council is required by canon law. The functions of the Finance Council include:

• advising the pastor on any major commitment of funds or parish/ministry resources before permission is requested of the diocese

• taking an active role in the preparation of the parish budget and its execution

• assisting in establishing cash management and internal control procedures for all funds

• informing the pastor and/or diocese directly of its knowledge of any allegations of fraud or suspected fraud affecting the parish

• ensuring that the parish complies with applicable laws and regulations

• approving the year-end financial report submitted to the diocese

• submitting the Annual Finance Council Report
