What is the Eucharist?

Eucharist is the core of our Catholic Faith. Baptized children receiving their First Eucharist are required to have sufficient knowledge combined with thoughtful preparation in order to truly understand the mystery of Christ according to their capacity.

Eucharist is a faith community event. The family is the core of our faith community, so sacramental preparation needs to take place in the home with the support of the Church. Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church partners with the parents to help prepare children for the reception of this Sacrament. Parents can feel confident that they are fulfilling their responsibilities in preparing their children for First Holy Communion if they take the religious education of their children seriously while offering their personal witness of the Eucharistic presence of Jesus. Enthusiastic participation in the Eucharist on a weekly basis is one of the best examples a parent can offer their first communicant.

This sacrament is normally celebrated in the 2nd grade (7 years old). Children must be registered in the

Faith Formation Program and families must be registered parishioners.
